Topic: Trouble Shooting and Repair / Norwalk 270 magnetic safety problem Hi Folks, I have a Norwalk 270 and it has been running for several years without fail or problem. The other day I went to use it and when I flipped the switch to the on position, and the breaker inside it flipped the circuit off, and the 270 would not run? So I took off the cover to see what type of electronics we were dealing with. Nothing to complicated, but I noticed a pair of grey wires going up to the back of the faceplate. Lo and behold there is a magnet on the back of the feed tower, as a safety prevention device I assume, to not allow the machine to be turned on without the feed tower being in place and secure. I took the feed tower and blade off the machine and wa la it runs just fine? So it looks like the magnetic safety has completely reversed polarity? Tower in place and no run, tower off and runs. Can someone help me out with this one? Thanks Donna |

Topic: Talk about Juicing / Help! The call of a newbie.... Put the first carrot in before turning on the machine, holding it between your thumb and index finger with the rest of your hand covering the opening, then turn on the machine—throwback will be minimal and shouldn’t occur after that because there’ll be a layer of pulp over the cutter (this is what you’ll want to push down at the end). Continue feeding whatever you’re using in the same manner; I usually let stuff self-feed as much as possible and only use the pusher when things start to back up. And congratulations! Sounds like things are looking up! :)) I think throwing back is to be expected under the circumstances, especially as the cutter moves rather quickly, e.g., Vitamix suggests “walking up” the speed from lowest to high when blending so that most of the product doesn’t end up in the lid. That’s just the physics of the situation. If you turn the machine on after you load the first carrot (or leaves or apple or nuts, et. al) it’s much less problematic, especially with your hand in place. |

Topic: Talk about Juicing / Help! The call of a newbie.... I’ll try grid #3 and I’m sure that’ll do the trick. I used better technique today and didn’t have throw back porblems, though it still seems strange that the blade essentially explodes the first carrot and sends a good eighty percent of it straight upwards. My blade is brand new and does not feel dull in the least. I think I am slowly getting the hang of it. |

Topic: Talk about Juicing / Help! The call of a newbie.... Best of luck but watch that video I mentioned. It’s a primer for good juicing technique; just make sure to peel your carrots and try not to be intimidated by the machine. You have to do things in a certain way but once you do, it’s a pussycat. :) I asked if it was new because what you described sounded like a dull blade—not very likely with a new machine. Incidentally, I juice root veggies with the #3 grid (although I’ve never experienced what you described while using the juicing grid). Better yield but you need to clean the grid somewhat more frequently (definitely worth the negligible extra effort). Also, when you’re done grinding, turn off the machine and push the rest of the pulp onto the cutter (I have a narrow spatula that works well for this), then put the pusher on top and grind for a few more seconds. If you’re using bags instead of cloths, you press the pulp that’s left in the housing in a cloth (I use cloths instead of bags so I just add it to the rest of my pulp). BTW, I contributed some suggestions to this thread on the Norwalk site: http://www.norwalkjuicers.com/tips-comments/post/1174734 , and there’s a lot more here that members have shared (Paul’s comments are of especial value). Learn from us! |

Topic: Talk about Juicing / Help! The call of a newbie.... Yes, I bought a brand new 275 directly from Norwalk. After a little more research, I’m gonna give it another shot today. Wish me luck. |

Topic: Talk about Juicing / Help! The call of a newbie.... I’m assuming that if your machine came with a DVD, you bought a new 275; is this the case? Did you buy it from Norwalk? From what you describe, it sounds as though the machine was on when you inserted the first carrot, am I right? And have you gone through the archives here? Did you watch the video on the Norwalk California site which shows the demonstrator covering the opening with her hand (i.e., not the pusher) as she feeds the produce? And fear not, you’ll be up to speed in no time. |

Topic: Talk about Juicing / Help! The call of a newbie.... So I read the instruction booklet (twice), watched the DVD, and even watched the online videos. Somehow my first time out with the Norwalk was still a disaster. I hovered over the hole with the plunger, leaving just enough room to feed my carrot (big side first) down towards the blade at an angle toward the blade’s movement. The moment the end of the carrot touched the blade it exploded into large chunks all over the kitchen. Now I have heard about this happening, but I certainly didn’t think it could happen to ME! I really don’t see what I could have done to prevent it, aside from using the throwback guard, which seems as though it shouldn’t be necessary. A bigger problem, perhaps, was what came out the other side. It was certainly not the wet mash I had expected. It was more like somewhat finely ground carrots with pieces big enough to cut between one’s fingernails, if that makes sense. I did use the juicing grid, as directed. Also, at the end of the juicing, I finally pushed the plunger all the way down to find that it couldn’t go down far enough to push the remaining green pulp into the blade and through the grid. I’m assuming that I must be doing something, or several things, wrong, and that this cannot be the reality of the much heralded Norwalk. Please let me know what I can do to make this wild beast behave. Inform me, scold me, ridicule me, whatever it takes. I’ve been contemplating this purchase for a few years now and would hate to have made the wrong decision. Thanks. Jason |

Topic: Buy or Sell / Norwalk 270 Juicer for sale $1400 Glad you enjoyed yourself and I’m quite sure your Norwalk will…walk (couldn’t resist the play on words), and at your asking price because it’s certainly reasonable for a 270 in excellent condition. :) “It’s” interested in ANY Norwalk juicer that’s for sale—virtually every completed Norwalk sale shows a bid. I believe this is what psychiatrists term an “idée fixe.” We could tell you stories…but of course, we can’t here. ;) Don’t forget the crucifixes! |

Topic: Buy or Sell / Norwalk 270 Juicer for sale $1400 I am laughing with you, I think it is the same entity!!! I clicked on your link, (his same picture is on facebook so I recognized him there) then clicked on his completed ebay listings as he currently had nothing for sale, then clicked on his ebay links that showed the warranties and people’s Norwalks that needed refurbishing, which led me to believe this was the same person you are referring to. I could tell from the email address under the contact link that it was probably someone associated with him because both had the same ”@” addresses. My little mystery is solved. So I will go to my local farmers market this week and purchase a garlic laced garland, recite incantations, and hope that this spirit does not come after my juicer! In all honesty, he did not seem interested in it, and he did offer a bit of useful advice. In the meantime, while I am busy warding off these spirits, let us say a prayer or two that I will sell my Norwalk. Whatever the case may be, It’s been a fun little ride on this forum, whether it sells here or not. Thanks for the laughs. |

Topic: Buy or Sell / Norwalk 270 Juicer for sale $1400 ROTFLMAO!!!! To quote a lyric line from Gypsy, “Let me entertain you.” You will observe that despite the fact that no names were divulged, you were approached anyway with an offer “to set the record straight.” Why would this matter to someone who wasn’t even identified? Narcissist! The entity that contacted you was tossed off this forum TWICE (two different incarnations, same solid nitrogenous waste) which, unfortunately, did not interfere with its ability to read posts (I believe, however, that the wife, one “Alien,” is still technically a member, as is its personal “Renfield”). Interesting, but not surprising in the least, to know that it continues to lurk. And of course it’s not interested in buying the juicer: it’d prefer that you pay to have it taken off your hands. Believe me, if I hadn’t posted, you’d already have been hondled (as we say in Irish). And your comments offended no one of good intentions, never fear. I’m hoping Elizabeth kicks in because if I’m not mistaken, it successfully lowballed her when she listed a juicer by claiming need for someone with cancer (it wasn’t and was resold at a considerable profit). Sorry, I don’t know who “holistic dream” is but if this: http://myworld.ebay.com/developtrust/ shows up at your door, don’t let it in if you value your immortal soul (it’s my understanding that holding up crucifixes and accessorizing with garlands containing lots of garlic are effective deterrents). |

Topic: Buy or Sell / Norwalk 270 Juicer for sale $1400 Well, attempting to sell a juicer on here has become more entertaining than one would expect! I have just received a personal email from someone who saw my ad on Craigslist with a kind offer to set the record straight regarding these comments. He was not interested in buying a juicer. I am a bit suprised by the attention my juicer ad is getting by people I think already own this kind of juicer. I gather there has been some bad energy here in the past. Thank you Karen for the warning, (I will take heed) thank you holistic dream for your offer. (I will consider it) If you both are reading this, maybe there can be a seperate subject posted for discussing this if something needs to be cleared up? I am sorry if my comments offended anyone. Blessings to all in our quest for health and good relations with one another :) |

Topic: Buy or Sell / Norwalk 270 Juicer for sale $1400 Or “persons.” :) Seriously, though, I hope it sells for you locally and I suspect it will. It’s my understanding that Norwalks are very popular these days. And I don’t blame you for wanting to avoid shipping it—I know I wouldn’t want to either. |

Topic: Buy or Sell / Norwalk 270 Juicer for sale $1400 Good luck and don’t let yourself be lowballed—your asking price seems very reasonable. Be very careful of those who might approach you with sob stories of illness. We have and have had some reprehensible elements here (one who lives in your home state springs immediately to mind) who’d like nothing better than to get their hands on your juicer for its parts or to turn it over for more money, complete with their own version of Norwalk’s warranty. |

Topic: Buy or Sell / want to buy norwalk juicer Yeah, he’s very trustworthy and knows EVERYTHING there is to know about juicing and the Norwalk, having descended here when?...January? DO avail yourself of his previous posts (in context). :O BTW, Norwalk has a special contact number ((479) 770-0248) on their site specifically for those who buy, or are considering buying, used juicers direct from previous owners (i.e. not from Norwalk). You might want to give them a call before committing to anything. |
