No, to the best of my knowledge he has nothing to do with this forum. He’s involved with Norwalk in California and works with the Gerson clinic. Nelson bought his Norwalk through him. I mentioned him because Norwalk management has no connection with Gerson per se. Richard Boger, on the other hand, has been working with them for years.

I found Nelson on this forum, but cannot find Richard Boger. Does he post this forum or another site?

I just got the gals book and will try some new stuff out. Just curious Carrothead, do you also run the juicing recipe site I just discovered last night? (juicingbook.com) Someone named carrot top runs it, so I thought it might be you. It has some really great info on a lot of the veggies and fruits we would normally juice, so I would suggest it to Norwalk users who would like more information on nutrition, as well as recipes.

I think Nelson does Gerson (at least to some extent) but I don’t really know how much actual Gerson-related info there is to be found here because it’s not the focus of the forum and if I’m not mistaken, Richard Boger is the only Norwalk person who works extensively with the Gerson staff. But I’m sure folks here who know anything will post responses.

Gerson.org/Programs/support_groups.htm is the link for a list of recognized Gerson support groups and where I found the Seattle contact. This info is probably somewhere else in this forum but I couldn’t find it after a few minutes of search and repetition is useful. I ordered the three books which will arrive about two weeks before the Norwalk juicer so we’ll have a couple weeks to get up to speed. The Seattle contact (aka. Al) was very generous with time and information. It’ll take a serious commitment to follow the regimen properly but from what I’ve learned so far it is definately possible.

Ouch. A LOT of money. Well, do what you can with the books. It doesn’t seem like something you’d be unable to do on your own; what does your Seattle contact think?

I appreciate your compliment but my posts and experiences have almost all resulted from picking the brains of other members here—it’s a very nice, knowledgeable group and it made for an extremely shallow learning curve. You’re in good company! :)

Thanks for the reply, Karen. I’ve read a lot of your posts over the last few days; really nice stuff. Right after I placed my previous post I located a fellow online in Seattle that runs a Gerson support group. He sucessfully completed the Gerson program quite awhile ago in Tijuana for $4200 – REALLY a long time ago; I see that it’s about five grand a week now. He said the three DVDs repeat the material in the books, so don’t bother with the discs and save $65.

I’m sorry that I can’t answer your question but maybe someone else can. However, please feel free to ask as many questions as you like about your 275 and while waiting for delivery, please read previous posts on usage, pick up a tube of silicone sealant (you’ll find out why in the archives), and absolutely resist the urge to do any juicing until you’ve thoroughly familiarized yourself with the instruction book and the DVD. And best of luck—there are some very experienced Norwalk users here (much more so than I) and everyone will do their best to help you both.

Is this forum an appropriate place to ask for information about the three book Gerson Home Therapy Package that the Gerson website offers for $65 ($125 if with 3 DVDs)? My wife is several months into her battle against renal cancer and wants to forgo anymore of the drugs, side effects that her doctors have been administering. We purchased a 275 model Norwalk machine yesterday and are looking for as much help and information as is available. Thanks, well wishes for good health and blessings to all. Gareth

Oh, good—it wasn’t just me. :)

We’re all aware of how good juice makes us feel and how helpful and healthful it can be but his asinine comment about blenders rankled as well. MANY people with health issues, including cancer patients on chemo, testify to cases of vastly improved health as the result of faithfully using their Vitamixes to consume raw fruits and vegetables. Clement is a self-promoting quack—shame on him and shame on the Hippocrates Institute.

I just watched the video, and based on Karen’s disclosure of where this “doctor” was educated and his $$$$ interests with a competing juicer company, I would assume he has not actually done his homework to back up his seemingly authoritative claims: [paraphrasing] “Freezing kills all the nutrients” “The life force in the veggie juice is all kaput after 15 minutes, even Norwalk’s” “Blender’s suck”. I would be more impressed if PhD Brian Clements had arrived at his conclusions by having followed Karen’s straightforward advise (lab analysis) rather than furthering his own cause by dissing Norwalk juicers, freezing and blenders. Personally, I think we all might as well throw in the towel in terms of caring for our health if we were to abide by this guy’s scientifically unproven beliefs. It’s almost like he hands out a defeatist attitude on a silver platter to anyone who is making any effort to take charge of their own health (unless you are willing to take it to his silly extremes.) With all due respect to your concerns, that to me sounds dangerous and far more unhealthful than a vegetable juice that has been unconsumed but refrigerated for more than 15 minutes. Listening to him left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Oh, come ON. I just watched your clip—he’s plugging HIS OWN freakin’ juicer! His Ph.D. is from “The University of Science, Arts, and Technology” in the CARIBBEAN and which is NOT accredited here. I guess that would explain his “bacteria” gaffe, a slip that no real scientist (or even first-year biology student) would make EVER. Note paragraph 5 on this Web page: http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/soe/cihe/newsletter/Number55/p7_Gollin.htm . “Ph.D.” my posterior. Save your respect for someone who merits it; I just lost even more respect for the Hippocrates Institute.

If you’re that concerned, maybe you ought to look into paying an independent lab for analysis because my guess is that no member of this forum can answer your question accurately. I think you can drive yourself nuts with this because let’s face it, produce starts losing its nutritional value as soon it’s severed from its umbilical cord, i.e., stem, and yet some things need to ripen AFTER they’re picked; Nature’s quirky. With the exception of green juices, I juice for a week at a time and Brian Clement be damned (I seem to recall seeing him on a TV show and was MOST impressed when he used the word “bacteria” as a singular, i.e., “bacteria is”—that’s some hot science background he must have). My guess is that given the perishability of produce in general and masticated produce in particular, if it tastes good, it probably still has nutritional value. If you’re that concerned, why not freeze it?

I think Norman Walker was a true visionary but a number of his claims have no hard science to support them (I tend to be wary of gurus in general anyway; most of them have a monetary agenda although I absolutely don’t think this was true of N.W.). Form your OWN opinions based on hard facts/common sense and revel in owning the means of producing the best juice on the planet and DO bear in mind that Clement is in bed with the Greenpower people (ahem Can you spell “monetary agenda?”). Unless you let it go bad, there’s no way it’s not doing you at least some good which will almost certainly be trumped by working yourself into a tizzy.

I have heard so many differing opinions about preserving fresh juices. I have been using the Norwalk and have been making juice twice a week and storing it in the fridge in Mason Jars. I usually make 9-12 pints and finish that in 3 days. Norman Walker said to consume the juice the same day in his books. He also mentions that in a centrifugal machine, the juice should be consumed within 15 minutes. Carol at Norwalk claims that because the newer Norwalks are stainless steel, the juice can last much longer. Norman Walker’s books were written in the 1940’s apparently when the Norwalks were not made completely of stainless steel. I do trust Norman Walker, however there is no existing scientific documentation to back this up. He spent over 40 years testing juices and is the father of juicing. I highly respect Brian Clement and recently heard this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMLhSmz9nYk&feature=related Listen to the first minute. He says that even with a Norwalk, juice has to be consumed immediately, regardless of what you have been told. He is the director of the Hippocrates Health Institute. Is there any hard science to back up either argument? I’m not interested in people’s opinions, or “my juice still TASTES good 7 days later.” Can someone post some lab results on the preservation of hormones, enzymes, etc. in juices? I’m interested in getting the most out of my juice, or why bother spending so much time and money on produce and a Norwalk? Everyone has there opinion. It would be a big disappointment and frustration to know that I have been juicing half a gallon of juice a day and not getting much if any out of it because it is not consumed on the spot. Not many of us have time to juice 3 or 4 times a day like a Gerson clinic. Also, I’m thinking that green juices might spoil much sooner than juices that are dominated by carrot. Just a theory. I have no science to back this up. Anyway, Help!

People also dont realize that if you are lucky to find any overripe or slightly blemished fruits at the farmers market, the farmer will be happy to sell them to you at a fraction of the unripe ones. I’ve scored green thompson grapes that are a tad bit yellow (prime of sweetness), crisp fuji apples with teeny spots on them, and of course, all the nectarines and peaches I could ever want. I also suggest if you are at the grocery, (generally the big chains wont do this for you) the manager is more than happy to reduce the price of the spotted yellow bananas sometimes by 75%, although it is hard to find organic ones ( for those who are sticklers about everything being organic.) You can freeze everything, and have an in home juice and smoothie bar. P.S. I would also like to think my smoothies and sorbets are also a cut above everyone else’s, at least here on the west coast. :)

People don’t seem to realize that for the most part, overripe fruit makes the most delicious smoothies (terrible juice, though). That’s why mine are a cut above everyone else’s. :)

I dont know a thing about bellinis, but I am very blessed when it comes to peaches and smoothies. We have an amazing farmers market here is Santa Monica, and the peach guy has a long standing booth here. Every variety of peach and nectarine, and at the end of the day he sells 20+ lb boxes of very ripe white and yellows for a measly 10.00. (The same ones that unripe go for between 2 and 3 dollars a pound at his booth.) Needless to say, I make a few trips to the parking lot balancing a box of these babies on my head. The sweetest little guys I have ever tasted. First thing I do when I get them home is wash and dry them, depit them, chop them up, and put them in freezer bags. I bought a seperate freezer literally for this guy’s offerings. They last the entire year in there, I make incredible sorbets and smoothies with them, and I recommend for those who have a peach guy at the local farmer’s market to save the very ripe ones for you. Generally, they go to waste because the farmer does not want to take them home, so try to make an arrangement if he/she does not offer them for a discount at the end of the day. Happy bellini and smoothie making!

Sorry, I think there’s no escaping that with some fruits and in fact, this is why I triturate grapes for juice in my Vitamix rather than run them through the Norwalk. The amount of foam is about the same and the Vitamix is ‘WAY faster and easier for this (literally seconds). I strain through a nylon nut milk bag and then press the pulp. Can you just let your nectar settle a bit and/or stir it gently to help eliminate the foam, maybe do this somewhat in advance of preparing your cocktails? Peaches are just SO pulpy so juice per se probably isn’t going to happen. Fresh white peaches…boy, the smoothies I could make with those… :O

Topic: Trade Recipes / Blue Print Cleanse

Hi Tahoe, maybe we’ll compare notes on our respective cleanses? I got a little heads up by googling a little more info last night. The one thing I noticed is that for the 3 day excavation cleanse, carrots are eliminated, and romaine lettuce is the mainstay ingredient for most of the duration. Until I get the book, I am not actually sure what level of this I want to partake in, but I will probably do the one that tastes the best. I am so grateful I can do this at home with my own Norwalk, it will probably cost me no more than 20% of what these very entreprenurial ladies are charging. I read some very funny stories last night how people shelling out the big bucks for their fix are crowding the outside of the warehouse where is it made at the crack of dawn to get their rations!! (Years ago, I was lucky if I could get my friends to try it, although now it is a much different story.) Based on what I was reading last night, it seems like a lot of juice bars and “cleansing” operations in New York are catching on to the quality and taste that only a Norwalk juice can provide. I think it’s got the West Coast beat in terms of that, I cant think of any juice bar in Los Angeles where the Norwalk press is even used. Although now I am my mother’s caretaker and am obligated to be here for most of the time, I am hoping one day to open a little natural food cafe that will proudly feature wild, healthy, and delicious combinations of Norwalk Juice. I would most definitely include Carrothead’s recipe (with full credit to him, of course!) or variation thereof, for the more adventurous.

I live in St. Helena. Trying to get the juice from fresh white peaches to make a great bellini. If I put them thru the triturator it produces too much foam. Thanks for your first reply
